The Arrival

After many delays and headaches, a 40 foot container arrived at the Port of Oakland aboard the SS Cap Patton from Rotterdam. Inside were the long awaited Porsche 934 and two crates of very rare old Alpina BMW race parts for the restoration of the Martini 3.0 CSL. Hurrah!

SCCA Runoffs

The SCCA Runoffs! My first ever, in nearly 20 years of racing. Like the season that had led up to it, the Runoffs was a very mixed bag. Problems with brakes, setup, and an alternator failure led to poor qualifying results and a starting position well back on the grid. But I put my head down and raced hard, finishing 9th and earning the Sunoco Hard Charger award for most positions gained.

Runoffs Test Day

A last test day before the Runoffs. We took teammate James Hakewill's car to Sears Point for aero testing and spent the day fiddling with wings and flaps, when we weren't ogling a handful of splendid '70s vintage Formula 1 cars which were sharing the track with us.

Bobby Rahal

I got to meet a star of American car racing: Bobby Rahal. Bobby stopped by Apple for a visit with me and fellow car nut Eddy Cue, and reminisced about his days racing a Porsche in the early '80s with Apple sponsorship. Some good stories...

Concours

The annual equivalent of a Mecca pilgrimage for car enthusiasts is a visit to Monterey in August. The Pebble Beach concours, auctions, and historic races are a draw for people and cars from all over the world. I escaped for a day from the hectic pressures of Apple (on the verge of the iPhone 6 launch) to go to Laguna Seca for the historic races. One of many highlights was seeing my good friend Van Zannis's freshly restored Porsche 962.
